Den Helder Airport as a basis for new European cooperation on future offshore helicopter operations
Den Helder, 1 March 2018 - An alliance of the six largest European offshore helicopter airfields will develop a vision on the future offshore helicopter operations for the large wind farms located far from the coast and on a scheduled service between a number of heliports. After a two-day meeting in Den Helder, the directors of Aberdeen International Airport, Emden Airport, Esbjerg Airport, Humberside Airport, Stavanger Airport and Den Helder Airport have agreed to set up an alliance: The North Sea Heliports Alliance (NSHA).
The North Sea Heliports Alliance (NSHA) should become a platform for European offshore helicopter airfields through which the governments, energy companies, ports and industrial areas want to contribute to developing sustainable and safe helicopter services for the offshore wind market. With this, NSHA wants to prepare Europe for the future large-scale roll-out of the offshore wind industry in the North Sea. The idea originated from Europe's ambitions to dedicate a large part of the North Sea to generate renewable energy.
Two-day working session in Den Helder
After a year of preparations of Den Helder Airport, the directors of the six largest European offshore helicopter airports gathered last week for a two-day meeting in Den Helder to discuss the energy transition. The meeting was organised at the initiative of Den Helder Airport director Conny van den Hoff and business development manager Nick Waterdrinker. In addition to an extensive introduction, an intensive work programme was prepared.
The six directors enthusiastically embraced the initiative in Den Helder on the closing day and decided to hold the meetings each time at another airport on a rotating basis. The founding meeting will be held in three months, at Aberdeen International Airport and the alliance will be presented in September at the international WindEurope 2018 exhibition in Hamburg.
Hamburg: 26 September 2018 - Today the North Sea Heliports Alliance (NSHA) was presented by Mr. Olaf Lies, Lower Saxony Minister for the Environment, Energy, Building and Climate Protection. The alliance of the six largest European offshore helicopter airports will develop a vision on future offshore helicopter operations for the large offshore wind farms and on maintaining a scheduled service between several heliports.
